Abdominoplasty or Tummy Tuck as some may call it is used to remove excess abdominal skin and fat commonly after weight loss or childbirth. It also tightens the abdominal wall musculature and therefore improves abdominal wall contour and outline.
Abdominoplasty is performed under a general anaesthetic during which the excess abdominal skin and underlying fat are excised, the muscles of the abdominal wall are tightened and the excess skin trimmed and resutured. A new position for the umbilicus is created.
At Hush Clinic Liposuction is often utilized for the flanks and can also be used in other areas such as the thighs during the same procedure.
The resulting outcome produces a flatter stomach without skin or soft tissue excess and a narrower more defined waist.
A body-lift combines the above abdominoplasty procedure with excision of tissue circumferentially around the back. It is usually utilised for patients who have lost significant amounts of weight and therefore have a circumferential excess of skin and subcutaneous fat.
Hush Clinic’s Plastic Surgeon advises general anaesthetic and it required and a 2 or 3 day hospital stay. The dressings are changed after 1 week and a support corset is worn for 6 weeks. The patient can usually return to work after 2 weeks and to sport after 1 month. Heavy lifting should be avoided for 6 weeks.
